at the hp pavilion ahead of tomorrow's slate of games. >> the fans equal a win for san jose's economy. monte francis live in san jose where you spoke to downtown businesses with more on the economic impact. good morning, monte. >> marla, good morning. in 2010, this tournament generated about $20 million for san jose's economy. expectations this time around are just as high. as you said, college basketball fans from across the country flying into san jose for the tournament. hotels, bars, restaurants in downtown san jose are hoping to recover some of the money they lost with nhl lockout this past season. we're told right now many hotels in san jose are fully booked. when it comes to ncaa's impact on the local economy, there is a trickle down effect. the ceo of the san jose silicon valley chamber of commerce says when the hotels are booked, that translates to more revenue for restaurants, bars, and cafes. >> the expectations are always high. obviously the economic impact can vary. i think the numbers we heard from 2010 were about $20 million in economic impact. so whenever you can bring people

in san jose where police are on the scene of a fatal shooting involving a man in a stolen car. police say the man sped away from officers in unmarked police cars and the chase ended in unincorporated east san jose when the man put the car in reverse and sped toward an officer standing outside his car. they say the officer fired a slot and hit the suspect in the head. abc7 news reporter has an update in 30 minutes. >> we are learning new details of a child care center that was suddenly shut down by state regulators last friday. it involved the universal preschool formally known as the sunny side infant and preschool. state regulators found a number of violations including an infant sleeping in a high chair, a worker without a proper background check, more children than the school is licensed to care for and the improper restraining of children. photos were shown of the babies swaddled with a blanket tied around the body and another around their ankles. >> always been very nice until this happened and then it has been lie after lie when you try to get a refund and suddenly they say they onl
news. now to a developing story in san jose. police are looking for a gunman who they say shot a man in an apparent drive-by shooting. the victim is hospitalized tonight. it happened near fisher middle school on hopkins drive. police say the victim -- between 18 and 20 years old was standing on the sidewalk when a light-colored s-u-v drove by and someone opened fire. the shooting happened just about two miles away from last night's deadly officer involved shooting. authorities have identified bruce barthelemy as the san jose police officer who shot and killed a man they say tried to ram him with a car. this is video from our helicopter partnership with a-b-c 7 news. the officers, members of san jose metro unit, were dressed in plain clothes. when they noticed a suspicious car.and found out it was stolen. the passenger in the stolen car is now facing several charges. new at 11. affordable housing has become a hot button issue in the town of danville. kron four's jeff bush explains why some people are unhappy about the city's plan. a train hit and killed a pedestrian on the caltrain tr

-involved shooting in unincorporated san jose. ktvu channel 2 reporter janine de la vega is live in san jose with what police are saying about gunfire that followed an overnight chase. good morning, janine. >> reporter: good morning, tori. sheriff's deputies just cleared the scene on jerilyn drive. they've been here for 12 hours investigating. we were just told by a neighbor. they say this is where the suspect in a stolen car was shot, where you see all of this broken glass and just across the street, that's where they say that he crashed his car after he was shot. i don't know if you can see. there's some debris there, still in the street in this residential neighborhood. now, this all took place just before 7:00 last night. san jose police were driving in unmarked cars from the specialized metro team. they spotted the stolen car, tried to spot it. authorities say they did use their lights and siren. the suspect then started to ram into police cars and the parked vehicle. one of the officers got out of his car. investigators say that's when the suspect

involved shooting. now we know it's tied to a homicide in san jose. he was driving this white honda that was toed toed from the scene. we reported last night the sheriff department said police officers tried to stop men in the white honda. it crashed into several parked cars when they tried to escape. a neighbor said this is what he saw. >> several undercover police chasing him on foot running along behind the car yelling at him to stop. then all of a sudden i heard about three shots, three or four shots and then the car veered to the right and hit another suv. >> reporter: we learned the officers did not just happen to see the stolen vehicle but had the driver under surveillance because he's in connection with a homicide in san jose. that case is the reason investigators have not released the name of the man shot last night. a woman who said she is a sister of that guy only wanted to comment on the family's sadness and anger. >> the cops didn't have to kill him. they didn't have to shoot him and kill h
